How Dr. Manmohan Singh Beats V.P. Singh Hands Down...

It was really a no contest till recently. The late V.P. Singh was the undisputed winner of this trophy. He also remains the classic example of a middle class hero who became a middle class villain. Till he became the Prime Minister, V.P. Singh was the anti-corruption crusader and messiah who rode on the infamy of the Bofors scam. Of course, Indians soon realised that pious crusaders do not always become good leaders. Mercifully, his tenure did not last long enough for V.P. Singh to inflict irreparable damage to India.

I used the words “till recently” because there was some lingering, forlorn hope that the current Prime Minister would at least do something that would enable V.P. Singh to retain the crown. But then, forlorn hopes always remain hopeless. I realised this when I read newspaper stories about how a Supreme Court Bench has yet again criticised the PMO. This time, the rap on the knuckles is because the Prime Minister has failed to convene a meeting of the Cauvery River Authority despite reminders. Allow me to use the words of the Bench: “What do you mean by this? It is shocking that you require the consent of all the states even for a date of a meeting? Is the PM to see his convenience or the convenience of the members? It is surprising that the PMO is asking the convenience of everybody before fixing the meeting.” Just imagine. The Prime Minister is the head of the Cauvery River Authority set up to tackle the often ugly dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over the sharing of Cauvery waters. What conclusion can you draw from the fact that he is not able to set up a meeting with some chief ministers? Either he is truly helpless and powerless, or he is indifferent and callous. Either ways, it bodes ill for India.

This incident and the rap on the knuckles by the Supreme Court is not front page news. Nor will it lead our television anchors to froth at the mouth. Yet, in a small but very significant way, it reflects the disappointment and disaster that Dr. Manmohan Singh has been. In 2009, he was a true blue middle class hero because the Congress won virtually all urban seats in the Lok Sabha elections, including seven out of seven in Delhi. Today, that halo has been torn to shreds. Of course, the middle class Indian is very fickle and unreliable. And later historians might have more charitable things to say about the tenure of Manmohan Singh. The more charitable may say that Indians expected too much from him and hence the disappointment and anger.

Cicero's Challenge 2012: The nation’s grandest inter-school event

It was a fest to remember. On the sprawling lawns of The Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM)’s international campus in New Delhi, on May 3, 2012, over 6,000 school children congregated to create what has become one of the biggest and most eagerly awaited events for the national student community. Cicero’s Challenge 2012, IIPM’s annual inter-school festival – which has the debate competition as the signature event and many other thrilling competitions – witnessed a display of excitement, energy and vigour that’s hard to put down in words.

The theme for the 2012 edition of the festival was ‘Get Real’. The two-day competition kicked off with its signature debate event, which saw students debating on the topic ‘Technology’ in the preliminary round, which was followed by the finals on the second day. The 27 finalists debated on the topic ‘The virtual world is where I can really be me’. Saksham Agarwal of Amity International School, Gurgaon bagged the first prize in the debate competition, which included a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000, a certificate and a trophy. Prof. Rajita Chaudhuri, Dean, Centre for Enterprise Management, IIPM and Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri, Honorary Director of IIPM Think Tank, were the judges for the debate finals. Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri said, “Every time I judge an event at Cicero’s, I discover new, budding schools that haven’t been heard of before; Montfort School, for instance.” In all, the event went beyond expectations to live up to its image of being the nation’s greatest inter-school event.

Barack Obama’s Kony capitalism

Ugandan Joseph Kony’s past is reason enough to target him as a crime perpetrator; but the grand involvement of United States in such a myopic issue clearly seems to be only with an objective to capture oil resources in the Ugandan region than for any other altruistic reasons

Joseph Kony. By some accounts, he’s a raving lunatic. By other accounts, he’s purely a cult religious fanatic. By almost all independent and reliable accounts, the man is a cut-down-to-size erstwhile extremist on the run who might previously have had fair resources under his command, engineering random killings, ethnic cleansing and abductions not only in Uganda – his former homebase from where he used to lead the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) – but also in South Sudan, Congo and Central African Republic. But by no sane account is the man currently worth the title of a global terrorist.

Of course, two decades ago, Kony was a different man, with a larger-than-life persona, commandeering armed men under the LRA umbrella ostensibly fighting for “freedom”. But over the years, the LRA – which sources claim had above of 100,000 fighters during the 1990s, including a significant number of children – has been decimated quite impressively by Ugandan forces. As of date, some estimates mention that the LRA – if it at all exists anymore as an entity – couldn’t have more than a hundred so-called fighters, and those too operating discretely without any central command. And the reason for that is that Kony’s been on the run for quite a long time; and his motley LRA crew – which Uganda strongly claims is being ‘supported’ by Sudan – wouldn’t even have been known in countries outside Africa had the US not decided to get in their spin doctors into the act and brand Mr. Kony as the new Osama bin Laden.

In other words, Kony – who is often now referred to even as a plain vagabond criminal – is not worth betting your grandmother’s Edward shilling on. Far lesser is he worth creating a Lord’s Resistance Army Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act (which Mr. Obama created in May 2010) or demanding more funding from Congress primarily to target Kony and his coterie (which the US President again did in November 2010) or sending “combat-equipped” US defence forces into Uganda with a prime objective to remove Kony and destroy LRA (which Mr. Obama again managed in October 2011). And to top it all, the spin doctors even released a Youtube video called Kony 2012 in March 2012 (it’s been viewed more than 100 million times on Youtube and Vimeo as this magazine goes to print). The video documents Kony and LRA’s various ‘atrocities’ and demands action.

The gaumless ridiculousness of Mr. Obama’s so-called altruistic moves got highlighted to worse levels when on March 21, 2012, the US Senate passed a resolution against “the ruthless guerrilla group” and backed efforts to target Kony and LRA. Seriously, is all of this for a man who has, as per the US government’s own admission (Donald Yamamoto from the US State Department revealed the figures), just 150 fighters left? Kony had been operating for decades and the US did nothing. Then why now, when Kony is already almost extinct?

“It’s all Good in Canada.” Really?!

During The Recent Election Campaign The Newly elected Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper touted Conservatives as The Best Economic Managers The Country has ever had. But can his so-called ‘Best Brigade’ Assure Canada of a growth that’s really sustainable in The Long run?

On May 30, 2011, when the 308-seat House of Commons of Canada next rises, it will be dominated by 167 Conservatives. Well, this certainly means a lot to Stephen Harper, who, despite winning two previous elections (Harper was first sworn in as Canada’s Prime Minister in 2006), has never before held a majority government. But then, does this really mean anything to the Canadian economy which, perhaps, is standing on the verge of a slowdown?

Interestingly, all this while, Harper has been repeatedly telling Canadians that the Conservatives are the “Best Economic Managers” that the country has ever had, and it’s because of them that Canada bounced back strongly from the global financial crisis. “But are they, really?” is the question that several have been asking on the streets of Ottawa & Toronto since March 25, 2011 when Canadian opposition parties had brought down Harper’s government by supporting a motion of no confidence that held Harper in contempt of Parliament for refusing to share financial details of decisions taken by him with the House.

No doubt, to some extent Harper seems right, as of the seven industrialised nations that comprise the G7, Canada clearly stands out when it comes to economic recovery from the recent recession. It not only expanded at an annual pace of 5.8%, but also recovered both the employment and real output losses that accrued over the troubled course, in just one year. But then, though Harper now has the clear mandate to deliver on his promises and the freedom to do so without much intervention from the opposition, there are many who still doubt his claims. And, there are good reasons for Canadians to be sceptical of Harper’s claims and even more reasons to be worried about what his promises (currently, the Harper administration projects a deficit of $29.5 billion for this fiscal year and a return to surpluses by 2014-2015) and policies would mean for Canada’s economic future.

After growing at a red hot annualised rate of 5.8% in Q1 2010, Canadian economic growth had come down to just 1.8% in Q3, 2010. Though the GDP growth has unexpectedly risen to 3.33% in Q4 2010, the celebration isn’t going to last long as domestic demand, which so far fuelled this growth, is all set to decrease in the near future. While a still healthy job market (employment growing at 2% y-o-y in Q1 2011) should continue to fuel domestic demand, there are several potential headwinds that need to be avoided. Further, with the benefits of the inventory swing (inventory rebuilding had accounted for over 33% of GDP growth in 2009) behind and the boost from government stimulus (over $60 billion in 2009 and 2010) fading, how is that Harper’s so called “Best Economic Managers” going to sustain Canada’s economic boom in the long run? In fact, they have yet to explain how they will find $1.6 billion in cuts already booked in the 2011 budget.

UK, Germany lost due to auctions! And India?

3G in India is clearly too expensive on a rational and logical basis

The Indian 3G spectrum auction has finally ended after 34 days, 183 rounds and prices close to US$15 billion. The resulting US$ / MHz / Pop (the standard benchmark) for Mumbai, for example, makes the prices paid in the UK and German 3G auctions look relatively good value. If the prices were adjusted for relative differences in GDP per capita, Indian prices would be off the scale. The prices paid in Germany and the UK in the dying days of the dotcom boom are often said to reflect the “irrational exuberance” of the time but has that same exuberance driven prices in India to irrational levels?

Vodafone in the UK, for example, had been enjoying returns on capital employed (ROCE) of 27% (before tax) in the year preceding the auction. However, after bidding close to GB£6 million for its 3G spectrum the company’s capital employed had to grow from GB£2.7 billion to GB£9.6, an increase of 255% to finance the investment. The result was an overnight fall in the ROCE from an impressive value creating 27% to a below the cost of capital 8%. O2, Orange and T-Mobile all experienced a similar fate with the returns for O2 and Orange falling from 6% to 3% and 19% to 13% respectively. After many false dawns only now, 10 years on, are non-SMS data revenues beginning to have a material impact on the top line but for many operators the contribution is still below 10% of total sales. UK and Germany were clearly cases of irrational exuberance but what about India?

Building new ties with sukuks

The Indian economy needs to understand its hidden potential and use it for getting Islamic Funds says Vikas Kumar

Take a situation where a person, who wants to start a small business, has to take a loan from bank. He agreed to pay an interest of 10%. After a year, he earns a profit of Rs.70,000, which alone is not enough to pay back his loan. The person now has two options in front of him, either to close down his shop or get caught in a vicious circle of interest payment. While the first case would put him into a situation where he has to throw out his people, in the second he would never be able to get rid of his debts.

But, had the person gone for Islamic Banks, he would neither have to close down nor would he ever need to take loans in order to be able to pay back his interest. While the former case is the conventional form of banking, the later is the latest trend in the banking arena called Islamic Finance. The conventional banking adds to the economy by giving loans, earning profits through interest and then infusing the same money back into the economy. In the Islamic Banking System, a person is given loan based on his capability and is not charged with any kind of interest. For a country like India such a form can prove to be a blessing. Because of the current recessionary phase and as the effect of it, the rich Arabs are failing to invest in high paying options across other nations. And now, since the US and the European markets are failing to revive themselves as soon as expected, the Indian markets are proving out to be a better option for them.

Says Assocham President, Swati Piramal, “The government is planning to spend more than $345 billion in the coming years, to build a new and fundamental structure. But it does not have that kind of money with it. So, it is trying to fill the gap with PPP model. In this case, Islamic Funds can change the whole scenario by investing in ports, roads and airports.”

In line with her thoughts and describing the nature of Islamic Financing are the views of Qatar-based Islamic Finance consultant, Monzer Kahf. He says “Islamic Finance is just like any other business. It does not discriminate on the basis of cast, creed or colour. It is not only for the Muslims but is for all.”

Skeletons in every cupboard

Rather than blaming auditors, the entire regulatory system must be cleaned from top to bottom

Is regulation in India working? It’s a lot like asking whether the democracy is working in Pakistan! A lot has been said and written on the Satyam fiasco and from investors to independent directors to auditors, everybody seems to have got their share of the blame. But this is not for the first time that such a thing has happened in India. However, Raju’s misdemeanours have taken this ruckus to a new league and garnered the attention of the corporate world. We have been through this episode with Sterlite, which was alleged to have adopted fraudulent practices to bag a tender floated by GAIL last year. Then we have the case of Global Trust Bank, where the auditors were again PricewaterhouseCoopers and so on... In fact, Naresh Gupta, MD, Adobe India, in an conversation with B&E, doesn’t deny the possibility that many more Indian companies have bloated books (mostly in the real estate & infrastructure sectors) because of their proximity with politicians and bureaucrats. “So it’s better if we clean up the system now than to feel sorry later,” he adds.

But then isn’t it the auditor’s responsibility to be the whistle-blower to the company’s wrongdoings? However, some say that book of accounts is the primary responsibility of the management and auditors merely audit the documents provided to them by the management and give their opinion based on accounts. If so, then why on earth does someone need an independent, external auditor?

VISION 2020: CITIES IN INDIA

Don’t be surprised, there’s Karachi too! Read on... this is an eye-opener

Indian cities lose on almost all factors. Delhi scored low on ‘Business activity’ and ‘Information exchange’. This is evident from the scores we received in ‘Ease of doing business’ and ‘Bureaucratic hurdles’ and ‘Lack of transparency’. In case of Mumbai, we find low scores on parameters like ‘Cultural experience’ and ‘Political engagement’, and why not? Today, the whole of Maharashtra is burning because of regionalism and ill politics! Bangalore, out proud IT epicentre received low scores on almost every parameter. And here’s the worst of them all – a global comparison. Indian cities couldn’t rank higher than even crime-plagued cities in like Mexico or the totally non-fashionable capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka or even the conflict-torn Pakistani city of Karachi! We have an advise for our administrators – take a holiday to Dhaka or Pakistan... you all need a break!

WAR DOCTRINE: THE EPIC ERA

Or, how to intelligently brainwash highly skilled, educated, yet ill-educated youth to do their own people

>President Harry S Truman, announcing the news from the cruiser, USS Augusta... said the device was more than 2,000 times more powerful than the largest bomb used to date... The British Prime Minister Clement Attlee read out a statement... “By God’s mercy, Britain and American science outpaced all German efforts...”< Mark those words: “God’s mercy!” Merciful god is used appropriately to give justification to Americans and British to prove to humanity that our own humankind is not, well, ‘our own people’.

Similar justifications have continued through this millennium when stealth bombers like B-1 or B-2 [commonly known as Batwings] or the ubiquitous B-52s drop bombs from 40,000 feet on the dispensable souls of Serbia, Iraq or Afghanistan, vaporising humanity with impunity. ‘Not our kind!’ And with that justification, a human can kill a human, of course with honour and pride. The same philosophy has been used quite effectively even by terror institutions attempting to induct new ‘trainees’.

Why would a skilled and educated human [terrorists, over the years, have been mostly educated] agree to go beyond the emotion of patriotism – which, believe us, can be an extremely strong feeling – and bomb his own country or kill his own countrymen? The answer is obviously simply. Once it is proved to the trainee, through focused training material and workshops, that the country he/she considers his own is actually not so, and the countrymen he considers ‘family’ are similar pieces of rag, the clearly ill-educated trainee – who in reality doesn’t have any real grievances – is inspired by shameful religious dogmatism to plant bombs all around and take lives.

Having said that, the fact is that probably every doctrine of contemporary warfare can find its root in every word uttered by the cleverest and most manipulative God of all times, Krishna, in Bhagavad Geeta. And why do humans choose to follow God’s examples? Well, firstly, it allows easy justification to the ill-educated, who choose to kill under “God’s mercy”. Secondly, there’s this tiny little motivation that one day you might strike gold and end up with 16,008 wives!!! Actually, even a fraction of that should do, we guess...

The more we are, the harder we...

Did you say ‘fall’? India’s population grows, and JSK is the new tactic

Art Hoppe had once rightly said, “We all worry about the population explosion, but we don’t worry about it at the right time.” With the population of India hovering at around 1.3 billion, this sure is a time to deter the exponential growth of the Indian inhabitants. Well, isn’t that something people knew already? But what people do not seem to know is that India has managed to attain this burgeoning population figure despite the incorporation of various Population Stabilisation Programmes. In fact, India was very much a signatory to the Improved Pyramid Construction Design programme, by the virtue of which various family planning programmes were implemented, and consequently imploded and destroyed.

One forgets that India was supposed to be a nation of 1.26 billion by 2015; a figure we’ve crossed already. And now, there’s a new initiative round the block, the Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh (JSK). This programme, which is an outcome of Government and civil society put together, seeks to achieve its goals through different social sectors.

LIFESTYLE: INDIAN

Taste the West while being in East

For generations, Indians did their daily shopping at fresh-food markets and regarded packaged foods as ‘stale’. However, just like their Western counterparts, a new generation of busy urban Indians is starting to appreciate the convenience and choice offered by packaged foods.

Therefore the professional Indians are getting a lifestyle of the developed world even after being in India. This adds to the belongingness and cultural compatibility to the affluent lifestyle they already have and would like to have. The bonus is the legacy of ‘best of both worlds’ to the young and vibrant professionals and upwardly mobile Indians.

Bharat Ratna

Or, the ball game of politicans

The word controversy had never left India alone, since its inception, and the latest one to add to the list is the country’s highest civilian title, the Bharat Ratna. This time Bharat Ratna had becoming a ball game for the polity of India. As of now, the names of various political and non-political veterans are doing the rounds. This game was kicked off, by L. K. Advani, by nominating Vajpayee for the title. Even the ally of the UPA Government, the DMK, had also suggested their leader Karunanidhi for the title. Moreover, not to forget the history maker, BSP chief, Mayawati, who is the latest to join the ‘Bharat Ratna’ controversy bandwagon. Mayawati had announced that she would ask the PM of India to confer the Bharat Ratna on the BSP founder. While Congress replied BSP with logic that conferring the national title is an apolitical process and should remain so.

The whole essence of the such prestigious award seem to get diluted with such a controversy and nor can Bharat Ratna be handed out, like any chocolate. It must be adhered that the nomination of this title can be a floodgate. The Bharat Ratna is not something which is casually offered, and that’s the reason for its luster and prestige. By convention, the nomination for this ward should be kept confidential to avoid any debate on the nominees.

Renewed rhetoric

ANIL PANDE says that the Madhya Pradesh CM is trying to win on the development plank. But his critics say that the strategy, if not inclusive, can prove to be worthless

Last year, in October, when corporate honchos were inking deals at the Indore Global Investors Summit, a substantial number of activists were protesting near the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at Regal Crossing, not far away from the investment summit. Among others, they were joined by activists from Narmada Bachao Andolan, and displaced farmers and tribals, who lost their land due to development projects in Neemach and Riwa districts. Needless to say, their feeble voices had no takers. The voices of the investors were amplified by the promised investments of Rs.120,000 crore.

The reason: in the last couple of years, development and good governance have emerged as vocal election planks. The days of ‘social engineering’ and ‘booth management’ have passed. Now, even people voting along caste lines expect a certain level of governance from their elected representatives. And, for a change, “governance” is determined on the basis of overall development. Poll pundits predict that as more youth participate in the electoral process, the development plank will continue to take a frontal position. At present, more than half of India’s population is constituted by people under-25 years.

In fact, development was one of the reasons why the BJP returned to power in Madhya Pradesh. Poor infrastructure did Digvijay Singh-led Congress government in. But now, the tables have turned. The BJP has completed four years in power. What’s more, development will once again be the frontal rhetoric in the forthcoming polls. Naturally, the BJP is worried. It wants to present a good report card to the voters. It wants development and the only way it can be done, says the BJP, is by inviting foreign capital.

That is why CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan is busy with his single agenda program. He has been successful in signing MoUs for projects worth more than Rs.225,000 crore in 2007 alone. Noted economist Alok Puranik finds foreign capital as the only way to initiate developmental projects in the state. Nevertheless, he wants the development to be inclusive. He predicts: “State governments focusing on investments in agriculture and manufacturing sectors have strong chances of returning back to power.”

Uranium is next yellow fuel

The most sought after investment after oil

The escalating population and the rising energy demand is forcing the global leaders to look out for more alternative sources of energy. With oil becoming unaffordable and increasing stress on environment-friendly fuels, the only alternative left out seems to be nuclear energy. But then this yellow fuel is not enough to fulfill all energy needs, thus disturbing dreams of energy investors. The uranium market is not only affected by the standard forces of supply and demand but also to whims of geo-politics. There are 440 reactors operating worldwide and 69 reactors under construction. Nations like France, Germany, Netherlands, the UK, USA and Russia form the core of the uranium market and influence all global buyers.

The worldwide demand already exceeds the supply by 139% and the prices have risen by almost 500% in last five years. With China building more nuclear reactors, it will be consuming 11% of the world’s nuclear energy capacity alone. Moreover, China is negotiating with Australian foreign ministry, to purchase 44 million pounds of uranium every year. As per the International Nuclear Inc., the stock of ready-to-use uranium is at an all-time low, and the commercial reserves fell by more than 50%. Global electricity use is projected to increase by 66% i.e. 22 trillion kilowatt-hours by 2020. With current supply at about 135 million pounds per year and mines of Australia & Canada contributing only 79.2 million pounds per year, there seem to be a ‘gold rush’ to purchase this yellow fuel in the near future. To meet increasing energy demand, there is no question that uranium will become a key to global affairs.

THE COMPLETE GLOBAL ECONOMY

WHEN OIL GREW, RUSSIA GREW; WHEN OIL FELL, RUSSIA ENSURED UKRAINE FELL. IF DUBAI IS A CASE IN QUESTION, THEN THE FACT IS THAT RUSSIA AND UKRAINE TOGETHER HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO DEBILITATE THE COMPLETE GLOBAL ECONOMY. SAYS GYANENDRA KASHYAP

Comparatively, Putin’s Russia – although not as bad as Ukraine – is the 7th ranked nation across the world on the cumulative default probability ranking (they have a default probability of 13.6%, better than Dubai). From 2005 to 2009, Russia’s fiscal balance has deteriorated phenomenally. While in 2005, there was a fiscal surplus of 8.2%, in 2009, there is now a fiscal deficit of 8% – a 180 degrees turnaround. Although Russia had managed to control its debt service ratio since 2005 (when it was 24.2) and brought it down to 11.3 in 2008, the same is expected to be 18 in 2009, an extremely worrisome rise. To Putin’s credit, FDI investment has increased from $12.8 billion in 2005 to $70.32 billion in 2008. But the forecasts for 2009 are close to half of this figure. External debt that was 33.6% of GDP in 2005 is now expected to increase to 47.1% in 2009. Add public debt of 5.4% of GDP, and you start realising that 52.5% of Russia’s national income of $1671 billion is pure and simple debt. In absolute figures, approximately $840 billion – compare this to Ukraine’s overall debt of $232.2 billion. Russia’s inflation worries continue, with 13.3% being the average inflation in 2008, although the same is expected to come down to 12% in 2009.

Fitch Ratings writes to us that Russia’s foreign currency and local currency long term IDRs have now been downgraded. Russia’s foreign exchange reserves saw an outward flight of almost $200 billion from July 2008 to February 2009. And with almost $137 billion of private sector debt coming up for repayment, these reserves might see a further fall very soon. At one point this year, the Russian rouble had fallen by a killing 37% when compared to the highest it had previously achieved against the dollar. Russia’s real GDP growth this year has been forecasted by Fitch Ratings to be -7%. In fact, World Bank has presented a worse picture, and has said that Russia’s GDP growth has been -9.8% in the first quarter, -10.9% in the second quarter, -9.4% forecasted in the third quarter and -10% in the fourth quarter. Interestingly, population is continuously falling by around 750,000 per year. The UN forecasts that Russia’s population, from 142 million now would go down to just 100 million by 2050. Still, in all fairness, Russia will make it through these times.

Environment and Wildlife Film Festival

Although Vatavaran, Environment and Wildlife Film Festival was not exactly that, it was nothing short of one either!!

Awareness generation is the first step toward bringing about action. And people will take action only if they are aware of the situation, whether it is about the harm that global warming might cause to the world tomorrow or it is about the fact that some species might be washed away for good”, explained an organiser of the Film Festival.

Although films were the biggest draw at this event, eventually, it was not just the documentaries that brought people to CMS Vatavaran. There were also seminars and panel discussions by wildlife experts and environmentalists. Besides, there were workshops on wildlife filmmaking conducted by renowned wildlife filmmakers – the Bedi Brothers (Ajay and Vijay Bedi) for budding and aspiring wildlife filmmakers. Recognising this platform that addressed alarming issues through films and discussions, Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dixit graced the occasion to reinforce the message, while filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt gave away the award for the Best Documentary Film of the event.

“Through this event, we aim to capture young minds and create awareness about these alarming issues, so that they become guardians of the world tomorrow”, mentioned a panellist, filmmaker and wildlife activist, Rita Banerji. And indeed, inspiring and inciting, the CMS Vatavaran, Environment & Wildlife Film Festival would have surely left an indelible impression on all minds, young and old.
